With 18 days left before Christmas – there is still time to create, celebrate and generally enjoy the festivities of the pre-Christmas joy. This is the best time of the year EVER! And our South Texas weather is cooperating and giving us a bit of chill in the air. This is the week to get out and enjoy our beautiful Hill Country with Christmas music blaring.
Saturday, 12/8 11 am – 4 pm Handspun Trunk Show
Tomorrow we are delighted to have a special trunk show of a local hand spinner – Dena. Dena has been spinning for eight years (in between working as brainiac in IT). She has spun so much it is time to share with those who have not picked up the spindle. YEAH!
Handspun yarn is magical to knit with! And really blends beautifully with ‘regular’ yarn to take a project to the next level.
Dena has a variety of weights, yardage, and colorways that will help you create the perfect project. Consider it for a hat, shawl, or even the yoke portion of a raglan sweater. Just like this Andrea Mowry’s Throwback.
Me – I was lucky to snag a couple of skeins when we were planning the trunk show. As I am in a hat making mode – I jumped on creating Wooly Wormhead’s Rollin’ Beret. Should be able to finish tonight so I can wear tomorrow – yeah!
And love this slouchy one too – Sloppy Joe:
But a snuggly shawl would pretty swell too! La Visch Designs, Handspun Delight works in whatever weight you find in Dena’s trunk show.’
Carla’s Closet Butterfly Hat & Mitts
In addition to highlighting the talents of a local spinner, we also have the honor of having an up-and-coming designer in our midst! Carla of Carla’s Closet has created a beautiful knitted hat and mitt set (Butterfly Hat and Mitts) that she is allowing us the honor of having as an exclusive through December. Just add a bit of fingering yarn and a few beads…..
The pieces have such pretty detail with or without beads! And boy, I bet it would be beautiful in the newest edition of Knitted Wit’s Sassy Holiday’s collection – ‘Festivus for the Rest of Us’ (400 yards 100% superwash merino).
Or you could really jump in and knit it up in some of the other great holiday yarn flavors we have recently gotten into the shop! Below is Sassy Santa – and paired with red or blue beads would be super funky!
Additional Holiday Inspirations
If the above were not enough, I have more great ways to create!
Personally, I had a blast knitting up the Woolly Wee Sheep from Churchmouse Yarns and Teas. This little guy is created in Classic Elite Vista – perfect natural sheep colors! A DK-weight one can be knit up in an evening. In fact, I gotta knit a second little guy for my flock.
It may also be great fun to knit up a pair of Christmas socks as you watch Hallmark Christmas movies. Fairy Lights from West Yorkshire Spinners is here and what fun with a free pattern!
And if you needlepoint, we have gotten in a wonderful variety of Christmas ornaments and other wonderful canvases to keep you stitching in the glow of the tree. This piece, Santa’s Books, is on the bigger side – but just spectacular.
And for those who cross stitch, Primitive Hare’s ‘The Olde Winter’ has my heart. The linen is printed with the snowflakes and the design itself is stitched with DMC floss. Love this one as you can definitely keep up into the new year!
I could keep going – but gotta save some goodies for the next installment of the newsletter!
Annual Christmas Party – Saturday, December 15
The annual Christmas party is always a blast. Yes, we do love to party at the shop. All day we will have goodies (and of course the cider pot), then our potluck lunch is set for noon and the gift exchange at 1 pm. The event is open to all, so we hope you can join us for some or all of the day!
Thank you for reading to the end, and if we are not lucky enough to see or talk to you prior – have the happiest Christmas!
